Fire Protection and Ambulance
The Bodega Bay Fire Protection District serves the area with a 24 hour paid
staff of Firefighters/Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics. The paid
staff is supplemented with volunteers. The district provides ALS (Advanced Life
Support) Ambulance service, the highest level of emergency medical response . As
part of the 911 Emergency System, a helicopter may be dispatched when quick
transport is needed. A new fire house was completed in 1997.

Sewer and Water
The town of Bodega Bay extending from Bodega Harbour on the south up to but
not including Salmon Creek on the north is served by a public utility district.
A modern sewage treatment facility was built in 1971 in conjunction with the
development of Bodega Harbour. In the near future, the facility will be upgraded
to tertiary level of treatment. The utility district has adequate water and
sewer systems to accommodate projected build out within its boundaries,
including the remaining 120 lots at Bodega Harbour, the planned 84 residence
development in town, a motel site at Eastshore Road and the few remaining infill
lots.
The communities north of Bodega Bay, including Salmon Creek, Carmet, Sereno
del Mar, Gleason Beach and West Beach (Cliff Avenue) are served by private water
companies or individual wells. All are on septic systems. Water supplies in
these communities are inadequate or just adequate for existing development. For
this reason, it is extremely difficult to obtain approval for new construction
in these areas. Sereno del Mar homeowners are currently working on developing
its water system to meet county standards. If the effort is successful, many of
the undeveloped lots in that subdivision could become buildable.

Bodega Bay Schools
Bodega Bay is served by the Shoreline Unified School District, a small rural
district serving southwestern Sonoma County and northwestern Marin County.
School funding is provided by the state. At the local level a parcel tax enables
the district to provide many programs that other schools have eliminated due to
reduced state funding. Bodega Bay children attend three schools:
Bodega Bay Elementary School
Grades: Kindergarten through 4th Grade
Two combined classrooms
Enrollment: 37 (Fall 2001)
Class size: approx. 20
Staff: Part time principal, 2 teachers, 4 support personnel
Phone: (707) 875-2724
Bodega Bay Elementary prides itself on small class size, individual attention, a
family-like atmosphere and active participation of parents and the community. It
won a 1989 Distinguished School Award from the California Department of
Education. The parcel tax funds the services of a counselor, library and
computer aide, music instructor and a seminar program for gifted students. The
computer lab and all classrooms are connected to the internet.
Tomales Elementary School
Location: Approx. 15 miles southeast in Tomales
Grades: K-8 (Bodega Bay students attend grades 5-8th)
Enrollment: 244 students (Fall 2001)
Average Class Size: 20
Staff: 13 teachers, an administrator, counselor and five support staff.
Preschool on campus.
Phone: (707) 878-2214
Bodega Bay students attend the larger Tomales Elementary School for grades 5-8.
Located in the town of Tomales, 15 miles from Bodega Bay, Tomales Elementary
shares a principal and many programs with Bodega Bay School. As with Bodega Bay
Elementary, many extras are provided because of the parcel tax. State funds
provide for the services of a bilingual resource teacher and part time aide, a
resource specialist and a primary aide. The computer lab and upper grade
classrooms are connected to the internet.
Tomales High School
Grades: 9-12
Enrollment: 263 (Fall 2001)
Ave. Class Size: 20
Staff: 23 teachers, an administrator, a full time counselor and 5 support
personnel.
Phone: (707) 878-2286
Although a small school, Tomales High School offers its students a full
curriculum including college preparatory classes and a new enrichment program
introduced in the fall of `94. Approximately 80% of students continue their
education beyond high school. Perhaps because of the lack of distractions found
in more urban settings, nearly all students participate in after school clubs,
organizations or sports. Tomales High is located in the town of Tomales,
approximately 15 miles from Bodega Bay.
